Festka

There is a cabin in the Orlické hory where the forest has a way of showing itself only to those willing to wait. A fern uncurls in the shade there, slow enough that most people would walk past it without noticing. A branch bends a little differently after the first snow. And on clear nights, the stars settle low over the ridge, close enough to feel like they belong to the valley alone.

Janja Prokič has spent years learning to see these things. Not glance at them. See them.

It is what she does before she ever touches gold. Long before a ring or a pendant takes its shape, there is a woman standing in the same clearing, again and again, letting the forest decide what is worth remembering. What looks like a sudden idea is really a hundred quiet returns to the same spot, until the spot finally speaks. We recognized something of ourselves in that patience.

Building her Festka became our version of that same return. Thirty measurements taken from one body were only the beginning. Janja spends her days giving each client full attention, a piece of herself left in every ring. Building her bike, we wanted her to feel that same care, this time turned toward her. Not a bike made to a formula, but one made the way she makes a ring, by staying with it until it was unmistakably hers.

This is Janja's second frame. Its finish carries white gold, rose gold, yellow gold, the same tones that have lived in her jewelry for years, now resting somewhere she never expected to find them. Not a copy of her work. Something closer to a second language, spoken for the first time.

To get it right, our art director carried the unfinished frame all the way to Kuala Lumpur and spent her days in the botanical garden there, sketching it among leaves that share nothing with the ferns back home. A different green. A different light. A stillness of its own kind. She wanted to know whether the frame could hold its quiet even far from the forest that first gave it meaning, the way a piece of jewelry has to hold its truth wherever it happens to travel.

Maybe that is the whole story. Not a bike Janja owns, but a small, moving piece of the world she already carries inside her. She built a life out of paying attention to one particular forest. Now the forest has grown wider. Every road becomes another clearing to stand in, another branch, another quiet thing worth noticing, waiting for the next time she sits down with gold in her hands.

She showed us how she sees the world. We simply gave her more of it to look at.
